Looks like you can install it using winget if you have windows 11 or certain versions of 10. If you want mp4 files only then you can use the first example listed here: If you're happy with the results then you should be good, you can also add different commands like adding -x -audio-format mp3 before the link and then you get an mp3 file with the audio from the video. If you get an error about MSVCR100.dll then read this: (just download this: Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86)) You can also paste in two youtube urls in one command. Same thing with playlist, just put the link there instead of the video and hit enter. When it's done you can just hit ⬆️ on your keyboard to get the command you just ran, erase the youtube url and paste another video in there. If you hit enter after that it should start downloading the video and save it in your user folder. (you right click to paste) example: yt-dlp.exe after the yt-dlp.exe you should put in a space and then just paste in a youtube link as a test. Start typing in yt-dlp.exe or just type in y and hit Tab and it should fill the rest in.
Open powershell (just search the start menu for powershell) (if you're on windows XP then use cmd.exe instead) Now most of the setup is done, now all you have to do to download a youtube video is to Unzip the contents of the bin folder in your userfolder directly, that means unzip all the exes so it becomes C:\Users\Forcen\ffmpeg.exe etc. Open the zip file, and inside the ffmpeg-4.0.2-win32-static folder you can find a folder called bin. (you normally go to the official site here, and it sends you here to find the windows build you want, I just did that step for you) Edit: changed the link since shut down.
Result (for me): C:\Users\Forcen\yt-dlp.exeĭownload FFmpeg, you can get the version you want here. You can get to it quickly by pasting %userprofile% into the address bar of explorer. Place it in the in your user folder, aka the folder that has the same name as your windows username. (this is based on the official instructions)ĮDIT : youtube-dl has gotten a bit stale so you might want to try this fork instead: (just download yt-dlp.exe from there instead and replace it in the instructions) This is how you set it up, it takes a few steps but it's real easy when you have done this once.
